ABOUT THE OWNERS
Les Paroules at Esparoutis is owned by an academic couple from Sydney, Australia.
Ian is an archaeologist, originally from Cornwall, England, who has been visiting the area since he came here as a child in 1962. He dug in several archaeological sites in the area (including one in the cliffs above the Céou) during the 1970s and did a thesis at the Université de Bordeaux. He now directs a small unit developing digital methods for Humanities research. He speaks fluent French, knows the area intimately and is a keen photographer.
Ien is an international cultural researcher lecturing and writing on broad issues of society and culture in today’s diverse and interconnected world. She cycled through France over many summers when she was studying in Amsterdam many years ago. Born in Indonesia into a family of Chinese background, she migrated to Holland with her parents when she was twelve, before moving to Australia in 1991. She speaks fluent Dutch, reasonable French, some German and a little bit of Indonesian.
